Bathrooms and tiled areas in this part of Melbourne
This region has apartment buildings, older flats, period and post-war homes, plus renovated residences. St Kilda, Elwood, Albert Park, Middle Park and South Melbourne include apartments and terrace-style homes, while Prahran, South Yarra, Toorak, Malvern and Malvern East include established homes, units and redevelopments. A shower may have original tiling, a later renovation or a compact ensuite.
Water can enter a tiled shower through worn cement grout or failed silicone at corners, wall-to-floor junctions, around screens and near plumbing penetrations. Cracked or missing grout, peeling silicone, recurring mould, loose tiles near the floor or moisture on an adjoining wall are visible clues, but do not prove the source of a leak.
What shower regrouting and resealing involves
Epoxy regrouting is a surface repair for a tiled shower with deteriorated grout or sealant. We remove failed grout and silicone, prepare and clean the joints, install Mapei Kerapoxy epoxy grout, and apply new silicone to the included movement joints and junctions. Suitable work can be completed without tile removal.
Shower regrouting prices
The final scope depends on the shower configuration, tile size, grout condition, access and the amount of grout and silicone to be replaced. Starting prices are:
| Shower type | Starting price |
|---|---|
| Shower base | From $650 + GST |
| 2 wall shower | From $1,250 + GST |
| 3 wall shower | From $1,450 + GST |
| Walk-in shower | From $1,650 + GST |
| Silicone only | From $450 + GST |
Very small mosaics, hard existing epoxy, extensive deterioration, extra glass panels or access constraints can affect the quote. Silicone-only work addresses failed silicone joints; it does not replace worn grout between tiles.
Choosing regrouting, resealing or a larger repair
This comparison is a guide, not a diagnosis. Dampness when the shower has not been used or an unexplained increase in the water bill can indicate plumbing and should be checked by a plumber.
Apartment balconies and shared-building considerations
Tiled balconies occur in apartments and some townhouses across the region. Rain can enter through grout, perimeter sealant, door thresholds, balustrade penetrations or around a floor waste. Balcony regrouting and resealing is a surface repair and does not replace a defective membrane, poor falls or structural damage beneath the tiles.
For apartment work, check access, notice and approval requirements with the owners corporation or building manager. Responsibility can depend on the building documents and the nature of the issue.

Port Phillip & Stonnington regrouting FAQs
Can you repair a leaking shower in Port Phillip or Stonnington without removing tiles?
Often, when failed grout or silicone is the entry point and the tiles are suitable. We remove deteriorated material rather than coat over it. If the signs suggest plumbing, membrane or structural problems, a different repair may be needed.
How much does shower regrouting cost?
A shower base starts from $650 + GST, a 2 wall shower from $1,250 + GST, a 3 wall shower from $1,450 + GST and a walk-in shower from $1,650 + GST. Silicone-only work starts from $450 + GST.
What is the difference between regrouting and resealing a shower?
Regrouting replaces material between tiles. Resealing replaces flexible silicone at corners, wall-to-floor junctions and around screens. A shower with failed grout and silicone may need both.
Will epoxy grout replace the waterproof membrane under my tiles?
No. Epoxy grout is non-porous, but it does not replace the waterproof membrane beneath the tiles. Widespread loose tiles, pooling water or damage beneath the surface may need further assessment.
Do apartment owners need approval for shower or balcony work?
Requirements vary by building and proposed work. Check with the owners corporation or building manager about access, notices and approvals before work starts, especially for balconies or shared areas.
Send photos for a fixed quote
Send a photo of the whole shower or balcony and a close-up of the grout. We assess the visible condition and explain whether regrouting and resealing are suitable.
