Homes, bathrooms and tiled balconies in Glen Eira
This part of Melbourne includes older brick units, period and renovated homes, plus newer townhouses and apartments. Bathrooms can have older tiled showers, while apartments may have compact ensuites and tiled balconies. Grout and silicone can deteriorate through use, movement and cleaning. Cracked grout, gaps at corners, discoloured silicone, loose tiles or moisture marks outside the shower are signs to investigate.
Balcony water can enter through damaged grout, perimeter sealant, thresholds, drains or penetrations. Regrouting and resealing are surface repairs; they do not replace a membrane beneath tiles or correct drainage, substrate or structural problems.
How we repair a leaking tiled shower
A leaking shower is not always a plumbing leak. Moisture after shower use may relate to failed grout or silicone. Dampness while the shower is unused, or an unexplained change in the water bill, means a plumber may need to check pipework first.
- Assess visible grout, silicone, tiles and likely entry points.
- Remove failed grout and deteriorated silicone.
- Prepare joints and install epoxy grout and new silicone as quoted.
- Final-clean the area and confirm care and curing guidance.
Epoxy grout fills tile joints and is non-porous. Silicone seals junctions where surfaces meet or move, including corners and wall-to-floor junctions. Silicone is a maintenance item and should be replaced when split, detached or difficult to clean.
Regrouting, resealing or tile removal?
A suitable regrout and reseal needs no tile removal. It may avoid demolition and replacement tiling, but the repair must match the condition found.

Epoxy grout, silicone and care
We use Mapei Kerapoxy epoxy grout for shower regrouting. It is non-porous and does not need sealing, but it is not a substitute for the membrane below tiles. Use pH-neutral cleaner and a soft brush or cloth. Avoid bleach, acids, abrasive pads and pressure washing.

Glen Eira, Caulfield & Bentleigh regrouting FAQs
Do you repair leaking showers in Caulfield, Carnegie and Bentleigh?
Yes. This region includes Caulfield, Carnegie, Bentleigh, McKinnon, Elsternwick, Glen Huntly, Murrumbeena and Ormond. We assess tiled showers for grout and silicone problems and can also discuss tiled balcony regrouting and resealing.
Can a leaking shower be repaired without removing tiles?
Often, yes, where water is entering through failed grout or silicone and the tiles and underlying construction are suitable. Regrouting and resealing are surface repairs, so they do not replace a failed membrane or resolve every underlying problem.
How much does shower regrouting cost in Glen Eira?
A shower base starts from $650 + GST. Two wall showers start from $1,250 + GST, three wall showers from $1,450 + GST and walk-in showers from $1,650 + GST. Silicone replacement only starts from $450 + GST.
How can I tell whether it is a shower leak or a pipe leak?
Moisture that appears after showering, cracked grout and failed silicone can indicate surface entry around the tiled enclosure. Dampness when the shower has not been used or an unexplained change in the water bill can point to plumbing that should be checked by a plumber first.
Can epoxy grout make the whole shower waterproof?
Epoxy grout is non-porous and helps protect tile joints, but it does not replace the waterproof membrane beneath the tiles. The likely cause and condition of the shower need to be considered before any repair is selected.
Send photos for a fixed quote
Send a photo of the whole shower or balcony and a close-up of the grout. We assess the visible condition and explain whether regrouting and resealing are suitable.
